Join Eat for Impact
Local Businesses, Restaurants,
Coffee Bars & Grocers
The Eat for Impact initiative brings the community together to enjoy great food & drinks while making a positive impact on the planet.
This project is made possible through a partnership with cities, nonprofit organizations, passionate community leaders, and local businesses like yours.
We would love for you to join your city’s initiative.
Here’s How it Works:
Restaurant Partners create new plant-based specials for the month.
Coffee partners offer lattes & cappuccinos with no extra charge for plant-based milks (if you already offer this, we ask that you create a fun drink special for the month)
And grocers offer hot bar specials and in-store signage for your favorite plant-based brands.
These will be promoted through local ads and partnerships with groups in your city.
Each customer who orders a special will be asked to take a survey about their meal.
At the end of the initiative, we will calculate the total greenhouse gas emissions saved through your participation and feature your business on our Community Impact Report.
-
Plant-based food is the most climate-friendly option. As researchers, we know there are many pathways to sustainability, but to keep things simple and eliminate the guesswork, we require that all Eat for Impact specials are fully plant-based. This ensures clarity, consistency, and maximum impact.
-
We DO NOT charge any partners to participate. These specials are sold just like those on your regular menu - we don’t require any percentage of sales or payment - ever.
-
For restaurant partners, we require that your specials are a new option. This ensures that customers will be more curious to try them. For coffee and grocery partners, we offer alternative ways to participate.
-
We require the following:
For restaurants, at least 2 new plant-based dishes on the menu, available for purchase every day that you are open during the month of the initiative.
For coffee bars/cafes, plant-based milk must be served at no extra charge for the month. A drink special is strongly suggested to encourage patronage.
For grocery partners, signage throughout the store featuring 15 or more plant-based brands of your choice. If you offer a hot bar, we ask that you have one plant-based option or more.
These specials will be openly available to all customers (no one should ever have to ask to see them). For most restaurant styles, we require the use of a hand-held menu. There are exceptions only for specific cases. Please ask and Eat for Impact may design this for your use.
We require that every customer who orders a special is given a small card with a QR code to take a short survey about their meal. We provide these cards.
In Austin for 2026, we are testing post-card sized “passports”, which include a game to collect climate-action points. At the end of the initiative, we require that every partner submits a short survey about their experience and sales outcomes. This information is used to determine climate impact and all data is aggregated to protect the privacy of each restaurant partner. No one except Planted Society will know your sales information.
Eat for Impact requires that specials are not named using overtly “vegan” or “plant-based” language. We can help with this.
